Sonya asked Ishna about her rather 1990’s looking suit blazer. A great discussion ensued about childhood influences and what our mothers wore when we were growing up…
“Yes, it is from the 1990s and yes I did buy it second-hand. I’m not sure how I feel about it… it has got these shoulder pads and stuff. The colours work really well with my outfit. It has this really fine pin-stripe in burnt orange that you might not be able to see in the photos. I know the whole blazer and mom-jeans look is kinda in at the moment, so it feels right. But it’s also something my Mum would have worn when she was my age, and so I have this memory of her when I wear it. Yes I think our childhoods do affect how we respond to clothes, as in feelings that go with memories”.
